This is an Antique LAVA Cameo Pendant from Circa 1890 from the VICTORIAN Era. (It can also be worn as a pin but the elongated bar needs to be replaced). The Lava Cameo sits in a stunning 800 SILVER frame and features a beautiful woman in profile with an ornate hairdo. This Antique Lava Cameo measures approximately 1 1/4 inches x 1 inch. It appears to be in excellent condition! 'LAVA' Cameos were coveted pieces of Jewelry during the Victorian era. Many wealthy families traveled throughout Europe on the 'Grand Tour'. One of the places they visited was Pompeii where they bought Lava Cameos as a souvenir. Thus, the Lava Cameo became a status symbol to show off as proof the wearer had been on the 'Grand Tour'.
